Students’ participation in a national-level Seminar on “The Confluence of Tales, Myths, and Culture in Literature”

The students of the Department of English, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, had actively participated in the National Level Seminar on the “Confluence of Tales, Myths, and Culture in Literature” organised by The Department of English, PSG College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Avinashi Road,  Civil Aerodrome Post,  Coimbatore, on August 4, 2023, through the offline and online platforms.

The seminar started around 10:00 a.m. The Resource Person for the first session was Mr. Era Natarasan, Author and Principal, Krishnasamy Memorial MHSS, Trichy. He shared his ideas and knowledge on Myth and the usage of myth in Literature. He highlighted literary works such as Homer’s Odyssey, Night of the ScorpionThe Women Who Climb Tree by Smriti Ravindra, etc. The session enhanced our student’s knowledge about the reflection of myth in literary works. Slots were allotted for all the paper presenters at 11.30 a.m. The students were divided into groups. Each group had a chairperson to evaluate the paper presentations.

The second session started around 2.00 pm with the introduction of the Resource person, Mr. Anand Neelakantan, a novelist, Screenwriter, Public speaker, and columnist from Kerala. He has provided a lot of information about folklore, ancient styles of writing, and the reflection of culture in literary works. He gave some tips on how to become a writer and inspired us to become budding authors. He stressed the importance of writing a literary work in the English language, which will help us reach our works across the country. This seminar gave us enormous knowledge on the concepts of Myth, culture, and Tales in literature. The seminar ended with a feedback session and vote of thanks.
