Legal awareness programme

Trinity Women’s Forum, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, conducted a legal awareness programme entitled “An analysis of women’s law in India” (இந்தியாவில் மகளிர்க்கான சட்டம் குறித்த ஒரு  கண்ணோட்டம் ) on November 16, 2023, in the seminar hall.

Mr. C. Vijaykarthick, Secretary/Sub Judge, Mr. V. Ramacheliyan, Chief Legal and Defence Counsel,  and Mrs. J. Poompozhil, Assistant Defence Council, District Legal Service Authority, Namakkal, were the special invitees.

The law is mandatory from the mother’s womb to the burial grave. It is illegal to determine whether a mother’s foetus is male or female. Before the independence of our country, women had been affected by sati after their husband’s death, child marriage, polygamy, dowry abuses, etc. Women breathed the air of freedom after the amendment of laws in favour of women. The Mahila Court was created exclusively for women, in particular. The POCSO Act has also been enacted for the benefit of women. Women face whatever problems can be resolved through law, they pointed out.

Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Arasuparameswaran, Director-Academic, highlighted the significance of safeguarding women in India through the laws amended by the Governments.

This programme was arranged by the coordinators of Trinity Women’s Forum, Dr. N. Santhi and Mrs. N. Thangamani. More than 250 students benefited from this programme.
