“Standards Club” was inaugurated at Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, on February 9, 2024. It was initiated by the Bureau of Indian Standards (the National Standards Body of India). This association is very closely linked with the departments of physics and chemistry of the College.

Inauguration of the Standards Club:

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is lighting up the future of India with a visionary initiative—the creation of standards clubs in schools and colleges across the nation. This innovative endeavor aims to instill in young minds the paramount importance of quality, standards, and generating scientific temperament.

In this regard, “Standards Club” was inaugurated at Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, on February 9, 2024. It was initiated by the Bureau of Indian Standards (the National Standards Body of India). This association is very closely linked with the departments of physics and chemistry of the College.

Mr. R. Gowtham, Standards Promotion Consultant, Bureau of Indian Standards, Coimbatore Branch, was the chief guest.

Ms. G. Vineha, first-year M.Sc., Chemistry, Core Club Member, Standard Club, was compiling the program. Ms. R. Aarthi, first-year M.Sc. in Physics, Student Leader, Standards Club, welcomed the gathering.

Mrs. Aruna Selvaraj, Executive Director of the College, delivered the inaugural address. Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal, presided over the program. Dr. Arasuparameswaran, Director, Academic, delivered the felicitation address. Ms. S. Rashika, first-year M.Sc. in Chemistry, Core Club Member, Standard Clubs, introduced the chief guest.

Mr. K.P. Senthil Raja, Real Foundation, Dharmapuri, addressed the chief guest. Ms. S. Poovitha, second-year B.Sc. in Physics, Core Club Member, Standards Club, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. R. Sakunthaladevi, Coordinator of the Standards Club, and her team members made arrangements.

 Mr. K.P. Senthilraja,  briefed on the large number of consumer rights like right to safety, right to be informed, right to be heard, right to choose, right to consumer redressal and right to consumer education.  Consumer is the king.  Every consumer should be aware at the time of purchasing goods, he said.  He also emphasized the significance of consumer rights. 

Mr. R. Gowtham highlighted the importance of standards of products like AGMARK (Agriculture Marketing) for agricultural products, ISI (Indian Standard Institution) mark for electrical products, BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) mark for gold ornaments and FPO (Farmers Producer Organizations) for all processed fruit products.    

 Dr. S. Kalaivani, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, Mrs. K. Saranya, Assistant Professor in Physics and Mrs. P. Gowthami, Lab Assistant in Physics also participated.   All the students of Physics and Chemistry, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal took part.
