Celebration of National Library Day
On the occasion of the 132nd birth anniversary of Padmashree, Prof. S.R. Ranganathan (Sirkazhi Ramamirtha Ranganathan), National Library Day programme has been celebrated by the department of Library, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal on 12th August 2024. This programme was held through the video conferencing of Google Meet.
In this regard, Dr. K. Kumaresan, College Librarian (Selection Grade), Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Government Arts and Science College, Madhanur, Vellore District was the resource person and he delivered the topic titled “History and significance of National Library Day”.
Mr. S.R. Ranganathan was born in Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai District. He was a reputed Mathematician and Librarian. This day (12th August) is dedicated to hardworking librarians for library users with relevant and current information even though changing technological scenarios, he said.
Also, he highlighted the role of Mr. S.R. Ranganathan for the contribution of library science and his five laws of the library, like books for use, every reader his book, every book its reader, save the time of the reader and library is a growing organ.
Dr. Arasuparameswaran, Coordinator, Silver Jubilee Celebrations welcomed the gathering. The Chief guest was introduced by Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal of the College.
More or less 100 students attended through the virtual mode of Google Meet. Apart from that, on behalf of Trinity College for Women, we arranged a special ICT Hall for all the participants in this virtual programme. In this ICT Hall, 200 students have watched their talk online.
