Event on “Saree Weaving and Making Process”
The department of Costume Design and Fashion, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, conducted a one-day event entitled “Saree Weaving and Making Process” on September 27, 2023, on the college campus. Mr. S Sivakumar, Director, Revathy Tex (saree manufacturer and seller), Murugur, Thuraiyur Taluk, Trichirappalli district, was the resource person.
Both the powerloom and handloom are made from silk or cotton threads. In Tamil Nadu state, Elampillai, Salem District is famous for saree manufacturing. Many sari products have been exported abroad and also in and around India, he said. Apart from that, he explained the process of sari manufacturing, like design making, selection of materials, reeling, dyeing, weaving, iterations, and finishing products.
This programme was organized by the faculty of the department of CDF Mrs. K. Punitha, Ms. K.P. Theepika, Mrs. A.P. Pavithra and Mrs. R. Shanmugapriya. Many faculty members and students of the College actively took part.
