Observation of Jumbu Dweep Prakadanam – 16th June 2024
Under the auspices of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal conducted a programme titled “Jumbu Dweep Prakadanam” on 16th June 2024. Dr. M.R. Lakshiminarayanan, Principal, delivered the topic entitled “An Overview of Jambu Dweep Pragadanam Day ”. Owing to the memory of the great brave warriors, the Maruthu Brothers of Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu state, this programme was organized.
22 decades years ago, on 1801, June 16, this date, Maruthupandiyar Brothers, the younger Brother of Maruthu Pandiyar, the rulers of Sivagangai, made a declaration in which he gave an open call to people to destroy not only the British but also All Europeans whom he referred to as “low wretches”. The declaration, the first call from India to take up arms against the British, led to a fierce war in which the Marudu Brothers were lost to, hanged and their family members exiled. The proclamation was also called “Srirangam Prakadanam” or Jambu Dweep Prakadanam, he said.
Also, he highlighted the role of the Maruthu Brothers in India’s freedom, and he explained the role of various freedom fighters in our nation’s independence. Many students of the College actively took part. Mrs. S. Hemalatha, Coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal, proposed the vote of thanks.
